History

2005: The founder of Bintumani Limited (Ismail B. Kandeh) took after his late parents (Mr. Mahmud Kandeh & Mrs. Madusu Kandeh-nee Marah) who were a master farmer cum local business persons. These parents farmed and traded in local rice and cattle throughout their lives until their demise. Unfortunately, the long civil war in the country (1993 – 2002) destroyed everything that was inherited by survivors of the family. In 2005 after post-war resettlement of communities and the founder having finished postgraduate education and being formally gainfully employed in the public service then started to support his younger brother (Shekou Omar Kandeh – now the Business Farm Manager) to re-start a small scale private farming and trading in local rice and cattle on parts of their inherited farmland at Tinkifirah Village in Kamadu-Yeraia Chiefdom in Koinadugu/Falaba District. It is this venture that was subsequently transformed to an organized SME Agribusiness.

2010: The business was first formally registered under the laws of Sierra Leone through the Office of the Registrar General in 2010 as Bintumani Agricultural Development Enterprise (BiAD Enterprise), and the scope of the business was extended to include production and trade in crops (paddy rice & vegetable) and livestock (beef cattle, goats & sheep) through a supported network of partner smallholders in operational communities in Bombali and Koinadugu/Falaba Districts with guaranteed market off-take. In addition, the business started supporting partner small farmers with farm tractor and delivery truck rental/hire services.

2016: Finally, the business was formally registered and incorporated under the laws of Sierra Leone through the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) in November 2016 as a limited liability company named Bintumani Limited (BiD Ltd). As outlined in its M&A, the scope of the business was further expanded to other non-agricultural and non-agribusiness activities to allow for growth into other sectors in the near and long-term future.

2018: The company started three transformative projects that now constitutes the main business activities, which are: transforming the livestock farm from a traditional free range (extensive) animal rearing to a more advance and semi-intensive ranch rearing system on a 200 acres farmland at Tinkifirah Village Koinadugu/Falaba District; the development of a 10 acres vegetable farm  at Yagala Village on the 2-mile outskirt of Kabala Town in Koinadugu/Falaba District; and the transformation of the plastic sachet drinking water processing facility to a better Reverse Osmosis (RO) water processing facility in Makeni City in Bombali District.

The shares of the company are a single group share owned by the Kandeh family members and relatives but equity shareholding is encouraged by individuals and groups both locals and foreign.
